CIBSE TM52 ‘Limits to Thermal Comfort’ provides a more stringent and more developed definition for overheating than that contained within CIBSE Guide A.
The standard contains a series of criteria which must be met fully or in part in order to achieve the standard, including:
- Hours of exceedance
- Daily weighted exceedance
- Upper temperature limit
The CIBSE TM52 definition for overheating provides a design target which is likely to satisfy a wider number of building occupants, beyond that of CIBSE Guide A, however the target does place further onus on the design team to achieve higher performance outcomes.
